Spaghetti Pie

Spaghetti Pie

Heyyy it’sa meee a Mattio…… I’m sorry. I’ll never do that again but hey, I have a good reason! It better be good, huh? Well it is. It’s Spaghetti Pie! Wait, Spaghetti PIE, you ask? … Yep. Your peepers definitely read that right. It’s basically a baked spaghetti dish and I’m gonna show you how to make it.

What you’ll need:
Cheese Sauce:
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter
- 3/4 cup flour
- 6-7 cups milk, heated in microwave
- 5 cups mozzarella cheese
- 3 tbsp cracked black pepper

Tomato Sauce: See recipe here. Use this recipe, but first sautee ground beef then continue with your tomato sauce recipe. 1 pack of ground beef should be fine.

You’ll also need:
- 1 package dry spaghetti

How you’ll do it:
- You’ll need to preheat your oven to 350F, so get that going.
- Now what you need to do next is make a ‘bechamel sauce’ of sorts. Heat a small sauce pot on medium. Melt your butter, then add your flour gradually while stirring. What should form is a toothpaste like .. uh, paste. Once this happens, cook lightly for a couple more minutes.
- Heat your milk in a bowl in the microwave for 1 minute. Remove and make sure it’s warm to hot. Don’t go crazy or it will boil over.
- Add 1 ladleof milk to your sauce pot and stir to combine. Hey, a sauce is forming! Keep adding your ladles of milk until it’s well combined. Now it’s time to pay attention. Turn your stove up to medium high and stir, or whisk constantly. Don’t stop or your milk will burn. Stir constantly until your sauce thickens nicely. Do you see it? Great! This your base for your cheese sauce. If it didn’t thicken, you might have added too much milk. Bechamel is a tricky sauce, but you can do it.
- Add your cheese to your sauce pot, 1 handful at a time and incorporate. Cook for 10 minutes, stirring constantly until smooth.
- Season with salt and generously with pepper.
- Once your tomato sauce is prepared, add 1 - 2 ladles of your tomato sauce to your cheese sauce. Oh my, guess what you just made? Blush sauce. Congrats.
- Set this sauce aside.

- In a salted pot of water, cook your noodles until al dente. Drain and add to your cheese sauce. Mix thoroughly to coat your noodles.

- Now grab a baking dish (shown in pictures) and butter it, or use a cooking spray. Add your noodles to the dish, as seen above in the pictures. Leave an inch or so for your tomato sauce.
- Spoon your tomato sauce on top of your noodle mixture and use the back of a cooking spoon to even it out.
- Place in your oven for about 35 minutes.
- Cut into squares, just like lasagna and serve!

This recipe may have a lot of steps to it, but it’s worth it. It’s a great change from the regular spaghetti and meat-a-balls… sorry, … again.
Trust me, give this one a whirl. If you have pasta lovers on hand, they will thank you for making this. It’s delicious.
